CSAC Announces 2011 Softball Regular Season Awards

Aston, Pa, May 2, 2011 – The Colonial States Athletic Conference announced the recipients of the Player, Pitcher, Rookie, and Coach of the year, First, Second, and Honorable Mention All-Conference teams and individual sportsmanship awards in the sport of softball.

Baptist Bible College’s Kacee Rava (Fr., Utility, Plains, PA/Coughlin) was named The 2011 Colonial States Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year. As a freshman Rava started in all 32 games for the Defenders. Rava ended the season with a .416 batting average including 12 doubles, one triple, 8 homeruns and 32 RBIs. On the mound the rookie was 13-2 on the year with two shutouts earning a 3.30 ERA and a .978 fielding percentage.

Centenary College’s Cara Montferrat (Fr., Catcher, Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown)was named The 2011 Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Year. The 2010 Rookie of the Year returned for an impressive year once again behind the plate. The sophomore catcher ended the year with a .490 batting average with 47 hits, 8 doubles, and 8 homeruns. She earned a .865 slugging percentage while committing only 1 error behind the plate all season.

Neumann University’s Rachel Purpuro (Jr., Pitcher, Toms River, NJ/Toms River South)was named The 2011 Colonial States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year. Purpuro finished her junior year with a 13-2 overall record and an impressive 1.84 ERA. Purpuro collected four shutouts on the season, 144 strikeouts and walked only 22 batters in 106.2 innings pitched. The junior was also able to keep her opponents to a .220 batting average.

Immaculata University’s  Dolores Martino was named the 2011 Colonial States Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.  Coach Martino completes her fifth season as head coach of the Immaculata University women's softball team.
Martino has guided the Mighty Macs to the CSAC Tournament in each of the last two seasons. She has coached her team to a 17-5 conference record earning them the #3 seed in the 2011 CSAC playoffs.
