CSAC Announces 2010 Baseball Regular Season Awards

Aston, Pa, May 11, 2010 – The Colonial States Athletic Conference announced the recipients of the Player, Rookie, and Coach of the year, First, Second, and Honorable Mention All-Conference teams and individual sportsmanship awards in the sport of baseball.

Immaculata University’s Matt Hardy (Freshman, First base, Massapequa, NY/Massapequa ) was named The 2010 Colonial States Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year in baseball. In Immaculata’s first year of competition in school history, Hardy tied for first place in the CSAC for doubles (15) and tied for second in runs batted in (44). Hardy ended the year with a team high batting average (.352), 36 runs scored, 44 hits, and slugged a .632. The freshman first-basemen played and started in all 37 games during the season. Hardy collected 259 putouts, 15 assists and committed only 6 errors all season giving him a .979 fielding percentage.

Keystone College’s Esteban Meletiche (Sophomore, Second base, Philadelphia PA/Frankford) was voted The 2010 Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Year in baseball. Meletiche was second in the conference in hits (52), tied for third in doubles (14), was fourth in runs scored (39) and batting average (.437). The second-basemen ended his sophomore year with a .437 batting average, 39 runs, and slugged a .709 on the season. The second-basemen collected 48 putouts, 73 assists with a .960 fielding percentage.

Keystone College’s Coach Jami Shevchik earns his second CSAC Coach of the Year award at the completion of his ninth season as the Giants head coach. Coach Shevchik has led the successful baseball program to a 16-2 conference record and a 26-7 overall record on the year. The team enters the CSAC Championship as the number one seed in hopes to earn the NCAA automatic qualifier.
