DeMaio Earns ABCA-Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Region Gold Glove
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (May 19, 2009) – Junior Mark DeMaio (Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) earned a 2009 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)-Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Region Gold Glove, the organization announced Monday. DeMaio was stellar for the Cyclones in left field, leading Centenary outfielders with 13 assists. He also ranked in the top five of CSAC outfielders in that category.
The award marks the second postseason honor for DeMaio, as he was named First Team All-CSAC as well. He recorded 43 putouts and only one error in 34 games to post a fielding percentage of .982. He had two double plays, tops among Centenary outfielders. At the plate, the junior led the team with a .381 batting average (45-for-118) with 22 runs, four doubles, 15 RBI and 24 stolen bases. He made several highlight-reel catches during the season, including a catch over the wall in the team’s conference tournament game against eventual champion Keystone to take away a grand slam.
