WASHINGTON, NJ – On Saturday, May 2, the Centenary men’s soccer team assisted the Arc of New Jersey as the program moved into a new location. Student-athletes and coaches moved books, furniture and other items from the Arc’s old site to its new office in Washington, NJ, helping expedite a task that could have taken several days but was finished within a few hours.

The Arc, Warren County Chapter, Inc, is dedicated to enriching the quality of life of persons with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities who reside in Warren County. Correlatively, The Arc is also committed to assisting families in solving the problems associated with the care of their family members with such disabilities.

Their community-based intervention programs aim to foster optimal self-sufficiency, productivity, self-determination and social adaptation. As an advocacy organization, they strive to create a more inclusive society for our constituents. The Warren County Chapter was founded in 1954 by parents, educators and other interested individuals who recognized the need for a comprehensive program of service for their children who had mental retardation.

Arc today serves more than 1,000 people annually, including persons with developmental disabilities and their family members. County-wide programs include residential, family support, advocacy, recreation and Special Olympics training, early intervention, case management and a wide variety of social services. The Arc in Warren County is part of a state and national network of Arc providers who provide quality service and support to more than three million people throughout the United States each year

The Arc Day Program operates out of a small retail book and gift store that focuses on teaching job skills to its clients, as well as allowing them to have interactions in a real life business setting. For more information log on to www.arcwarren.org.
