Cedar Crest Athletes and Staff receive award at Fall Championship Festival

Aston, PA, October 15, 2009 – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) is proud to announce the first recipient of the Colonial States Athletic Conference Institutional Academic Excellence Award: Cedar Crest College. The student-athletes of Cedar Crest College posted the highest overall GPA (3.20) in the CSAC during the 2008-2009 academic year. 

 "We are so pleased with the success of our student-athletes on the field, but particularly in the classroom. This award is a testament to their prowess academically,” said Cedar Crest College’s President Carmen Ambar.  “Our students are typically in difficult majors while they simultaneously manage the schedule associated with being a part of athletics. This is truly a team award and I know our College, and our students, value it immensely."
 In keeping with the philosophy of Division III and the CSAC’s commitment to the holistic development of the student-athlete, this award will honor the institution whose student-athletes while competing in conference-sponsored sports, achieves the highest combined grade point average for that academic year.
 Award criteria includes the following: (1) all student-athletes who use a season of eligibility, as defined by the NCAA, shall be included in the institution’s grade point average calculation, (2) institutional grade point averages shall be calculated using the total quality points for all credits attempted by student-athletes during the academic year and (3) institutional grade point averages shall be calculated and certified by the Registrar’s Office at each institution.
 The CSAC Institutional Academic Excellence Award will be presented to Cedar Crest College at the CSAC Fall Championship Festival on Saturday November 7th during the half time of the Field Hockey Championship game at Immaculata University. The field hockey game will start at 12 noon. Please visit the CSAC website at www.csacsports.com for complete championship dates and times.
