Aston, Pa. – Marywood University’s Women’s Cross Country team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches’ poll. The 2007 conference champion received five of ten possible first-place votes for a total of 86 points, finishing ahead of Gwynedd-Mercy College by virtue of a tiebreaker.
"We are honored to be selected as pre-season favorites in the CSAC, but know that our job in earning the championship becomes more difficult each year" said first-year Pacers Head Coach Kevin Borrelli. "There is tough competition throughout the conference and we are looking forward to the challenges we face from returning teams as well as the new schools."
The Pacers have won the last five conference championships, and were the runner up in 2002.
Gwynedd-Mercy College also earned a total of 86 points but received fewer first place votes to finish second. Cabrini College was selected third with 72 points.
Cedar Crest College (60), Keystone College (59), and Baptist Bible College (49) rounded out the top 6. Centenary College and Philadelphia Biblical University tied for seventh with 39 points. Immaculata University (37) and Neumann College (23) rounded out the voting.
The 2008 CSAC Championship Race will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 in Allentown, Pa.
